The product
Does the knife stay put in transit?
Yes. The blade seats into a magnetic dock milled into the board, so it holds through a pack, a truck bed or a boat locker. No sheath to lose and no loose knife rolling around your gear.
Will it fit in my pack?
The board is 10 x 7.5 x 0.75 inches and weighs 1.44 lb, about the size and heft of a hardcover book. It lies flat against the back panel of most daypacks. Because the knife travels inside the board, it is one item to pack instead of two.
What is it made of?
A staggered hard sugar maple butcher block, the same material professional kitchens use, paired with a 440C surgical stainless steel full-tang blade and walnut handle scales. Hard maple is dense, naturally antimicrobial and forgiving on an edge. 440C holds that edge and resists corrosion, which matters when your gear lives in a pack.
Is there a bottle opener?
Yes. It is worked into the spine of the blade rather than added as a separate tool, so it travels with everything else.
What exactly comes in the box?
The board with its integrated chef's knife and magnetic dock, a dual-sided 400/1000 grit diamond sharpening plate, a travel glass bottle of food-safe mineral oil, and a 100% cotton cooking cloth. It is a complete kit — there is nothing else you need to buy.
Is this only for camping?
No. Our testers use it on boats, at tailgates, on beaches and picnics, in vans and in rental kitchens — and plenty keep it on the counter at home. Anywhere you would rather not trust the kitchen you find when you get there.
Care
How do I care for the board?
Hand wash, dry it standing up, and re-oil it when the grain starts looking thirsty — roughly once a month with normal use. The mineral oil and cotton cloth to do it are already in the box. Never put it in the dishwasher and do not leave it soaking.
Can I keep the edge sharp myself?
Yes, and everything you need ships with it. The dual-sided 400/1000 grit diamond plate in the kit resets and finishes the edge in a couple of minutes. We would rather you maintain this board for a decade than replace it.

How fast does it ship?
Boards are in stock and leave our shop within 24 hours of your order on business days. Shipping is free to the lower 48, with faster paid options at checkout. Full detail is in our shipping policy.
What if it is not right for me?
Use it, cook on it, take it out. If it is not for you, return it within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Returns inside the lower 48 are prepaid. See the refund policy.
Is it covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every BACA Board carries a one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear on the wood and the edge is expected and is what the included oil and sharpening plate are for.
